From 1937 to June of 1948, the Manitoba
Telephone System, Radio Branch, published
"Manitoba
Calling". Edited in
Winnipeg, it was a monthly magazine and
programming guide for Manitoba radio
stations CKY. (Winnipeg) and CKX. (Brandon).
Beyond providing program information, the
magazine often contained articles on
Manitoba history and culture.
CKY "closed" in mid-1948, giving way to CBC
owned CBW where the CBC programming
continued to be heard. In 1949, a "new" CKY
went on the air on 590 under the ownership
of Lloyd Moffatt.
An excellent history of CKY & CBW is at the
Canadian "Radio
Station History" website which we highly
recommend.

I recommend the site's section called Peel's
Prairie Provinces which has a wealth of
interesting historical data about the
Canadian plains provinces.
