"DXing Horizons" began in 1960 focusing on
distant TV reception. It morphed into "TV
Horizons", and branched into CATV. By 1963
it became "Video Communications" and was
fully dedicated to cable TV and related
fields.
TV & Communications was formed in 1964 after
the offices of "Video Communication
Journal", the only magazine in the CATV
field, burnt in a fire. There was no
insurance coverage so the magazine was
unable to continue.
However, with the encouragement and generous
assistance of several equipment manufacturers, a
number of former "VCJ" staff members were
able to initiate a new monthly publication
to fill the void by creating TV &
Communications to serve the television
interconnection industry.
The period of the 60's and 70's was prior to
the beginning of modern cable television.
CATV grew from simply a way of getting
distant signals to unserved markets to a
whole new system for the distribution of
original cable-only programming
